What really differs

Built for integrators, or for the business itself

OnSign TV describes itself as a professional signage CMS focused on Pro AV integrators. It offers custom apps, platform customisation, training and consulting, programmatic ads and a Data Bridge as add-ons, and its feature set (multi-zone layouts, data feeds, sensors, GPS triggers, player masks and a monitoring mosaic) suits large, varied networks.

TVpilot is made for a business that runs its own screens: sign up, add a screen, drag in images, videos, web pages or PDFs and pick a plugin. The dashboard is available in English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish, and resellers and agencies have a partner portal on Business.

What you pay per month

OnSign TV charges per player. Core is $19.99, Pro $24.99 and Enterprise $34.99 a month on monthly billing, and yearly billing takes 10% off ($17.99, $22.49 and $31.49). Ten players on Core come to $199.90 a month.

TVpilot is free for 1 screen, forever. Starter is €5 a month with 3 screens included and €2 per extra screen, so 10 screens cost €19 a month; Pro is €29 a month with 10 screens and every Premium feature, including smart triggers, the emergency alert and the Data API.

Players

OnSign TV supports a wide range of professional hardware: Android, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, macOS, BrightSign, LG webOS, Samsung SSP, the Amazon Signage Stick, NovaStar Taurus for LED walls and Bluefin. It does not sell hardware and helps customers choose their own.

TVpilot runs on the Amazon Signage Stick, any Raspberry Pi with one install command (with HDMI-CEC TV power scheduling and a self-healing watchdog), a Fire TV Stick with the TVpilot app, Android TV and Chromecast with Google TV through a browser, and any smart TV or computer that opens a player URL. It has no native Samsung or LG app.

Live content and triggers

OnSign TV lists 100+ apps and data feeds, with interactivity, sensor integration and GPS triggers on Pro and an AI assistant. TVpilot has live plugins on every plan (weather, news, reviews, calendars, Power BI, Shopify, bol.com, Mollie, SumUp, NS departures, ANWB traffic) and smart triggers in Premium that play a slide only while a rule holds, for example when it rains, when the air is poor or when a new five-star review comes in.

Honest advice

Which one should you pick?

Choose OnSign TV if

  • You are an AV integrator building complex networks for clients.
  • You need native players on BrightSign, Samsung SSP, LG webOS or NovaStar LED controllers.
  • You need sensors, GPS triggers or touch interactivity.
  • Your IT team requires an ISO 27001 certified signage platform.

Choose TVpilot if

  • You run your own screens and want to start free.
  • You want 10 screens for €19 a month rather than about $200.
  • You want to use a Raspberry Pi with the TV switched on and off over HDMI-CEC.
  • You want your OnSign TV playlists moved over automatically.

Moving from OnSign TV to TVpilot

OnSign TV has an automatic import. The Switch to TVpilot plugin copies your photos and videos as original files and rebuilds your playlists with the same order and durations. Campaigns and apps stay behind: in TVpilot you schedule per slide and per screen, and live content comes from plugins.

In OnSign TV, open Settings, API Access Tokens, click Add API Access Key, choose a read-only key and paste it into the plugin. OnSign TV lists its API as an add-on on its pricing page. Then install TVpilot on each screen and pair it once; your playlists are already waiting.
