ScreenCloud alternative
for small businesses

ScreenCloud is a polished signage platform built for internal communications, with its own hardware and a large app marketplace. Small businesses looking for a ScreenCloud alternative usually want something simpler to pay for, or support for the Raspberry Pi they already own. Here is how TVpilot and ScreenCloud compare, including where ScreenCloud is the better choice.

Free plan, no credit card required. Paid plans from €5 a month.

The short answer

ScreenCloud has no free plan (a 14-day trial) and charges $20 or $30 per screen per month on yearly billing. It does not run on a Raspberry Pi. TVpilot is free for 1 screen, charges per plan with screens included (€5 a month for 3 screens, €2 per extra screen) and runs on a Raspberry Pi, the Amazon Signage Stick, a Fire TV Stick or any browser. ScreenCloud is stronger for company-wide internal communications, with 80+ apps, SSO, audit logs and its own PIXI player.

What really differs

Who each one is built for

ScreenCloud positions itself around internal communications: screens for frontline workers, offices and company-wide news. Its Enterprise plan includes onboarding, training and a customer success manager, and its apps marketplace connects Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and dashboards.

TVpilot is built for small and medium businesses that want their TVs to sell, inform and welcome: menu boards, promotions, opening hours, reviews and live shop numbers, managed from one dashboard. The dashboard is available in English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish.

Price: the per-screen bill

ScreenCloud has no free plan. After a 14-day trial, Core is $20 and Pro $30 per screen per month on yearly billing, and monthly billing costs up to 16% more. Ten screens on Core come to $200 a month.

TVpilot is free for 1 screen, forever. Starter is €5 a month with 3 screens included and €2 per extra screen, so 10 screens cost €19 a month; Pro is €29 a month with 10 screens and every Premium feature. You can pay monthly and cancel any time, or pay yearly and get 2 months free.

Hardware: Raspberry Pi or not

ScreenCloud does not support the Raspberry Pi. It sells its own PIXI player, includes a free device with yearly plans, and runs on ScreenCloud OS and third-party hardware.

TVpilot treats the Raspberry Pi as a first-class player: one install command, kiosk mode, a self-healing watchdog and HDMI-CEC to switch the TV on and off on a schedule. It also runs on the Amazon Signage Stick, a Fire TV Stick with the TVpilot app, Android TV and Chromecast with Google TV through a browser, an iPad or Mac, or any smart TV browser.

Live data and integrations

ScreenCloud lists 80+ apps, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Canva, YouTube, emergency alerts, dashboards, webhooks and Playgrounds for custom development.

TVpilot's plugins cover Power BI, Google Slides, PowerPoint, Canva, YouTube, Vimeo, calendars, meeting room panels, Google and Trustpilot reviews and webshop dashboards, plus local data most international platforms do not offer: bol.com, Mollie, Moneybird, SumUp, NS departures, ANWB traffic and Buienradar. An emergency alert and a Data API are part of Premium.

  • You want a dedicated customer success manager and onboarding on an enterprise contract.

Choose TVpilot if

  • You want to start free and pay only when you add screens.
  • You already own a Raspberry Pi or want to use one.
  • You run several screens and want a bill of a few euros a month rather than $20 per screen.
  • You want menus, promotions, reviews and live shop data on your TVs.

Moving from ScreenCloud to TVpilot

ScreenCloud's API lists files and playlists, but a reliable download of the original files is not documented, so there is no automatic import yet. Download your files from ScreenCloud and upload them in TVpilot, many at once or straight from Google Drive or Dropbox.

Install TVpilot on your player and pair it once with the claim code. If you have a Raspberry Pi in a drawer, this is the moment to use it.
